The IndabaX Spring School
This is the first edition of the annual IndabaX Spring School, collocated with IndabaX Uganda and co-organized by the United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau). Each edition will take place in different African country and cover a diversity of AI research topics. In this first edition, students will be guided to work on agent-based modeling and multi-agent systems, to inform decision or policy making for urgent social or environmental challenges.
The school aims to operationalize the main takeouts from the Deep Learning Indaba workshop “Responsible AI: from Africa to the World”:
- Leading from Africa: the leadership of the Spring School is from African students, teachers and organizations. International students are also invited to learn, in Africa, how “AI that works for all” is done.
- AI Research that works for all: students in the Indaba Spring School work on purpose-built hands-on applied projects that both contribute to AI state of the art and solve real problems at a local, regional and global levels.
- Prestigious AI capacity building outside the classroom. In 2050, 25% of the world population will be African, but existing universities do not have the capacity to meet the demand for AI tuition. The Indaba Spring School provides alternative and prestigious capacity building accreditations, building global bridges through AI research, between students and teachers from all over the whole, prioritizing the participation of the students from the continent.
